Regular home practice is essential for student success. Ideally, students should aim for at least five days of practice each week with a duration of 20-30 minutes. Short daily practice sessions are more effective than one or two long sessions per week. For beginners, I ask that students practice each song five times each day. Parent involvement in home practice is important. Please help your child to establish and stick to a practice routine. I have found that sitting with your child when they first begin will help your child be more successful in their lessons.
First month’s tuition will reserve your spot for the year. You can call me and reserve your spot and bring the money by in the next two days. If there is someone else waiting for that spot and I have not received the tuition, I cannot reserve your spot, it will go to whoever has the tuition.
Your child will need books periodically. A notice will be sent home a few weeks in advance so you can plan accordingly. I will bill you for the books I purchase instead of you giving me money beforehand. The money will be due by the next month of lessons, if not before.
Attendance/Make up Days
Your lesson time is reserved for you. I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you must miss a lesson. You may call, leave a message, or text me at 757-255-8318. Designated make up days for missed lessons are scheduled on various days throughout the year. You can refer to the calendar for the exact dates. Missing a lesson does not change your monthly bill, as makeup days are included for that purpose. Scheduled days off and makeup days (also on the calendar) are not made up, as they have already been designated as days off. Makeup lessons are not available for last-minute changes or forgotten lessons. The only exception will be if you/your child becomes ill overnight or comes home sick from school. Please call me as soon as possible. If it is necessary for me to cancel lessons due to sickness or an emergency in my home, I will always make those days up for you. Due to time restraints, only ONE lesson per student per month will be permitted with the exception of teacher missed days.
You will need to bring ALL your music books, notebooks, flashcards, and folder to a lesson. You will also need to keep a metronome and a music dictionary at home. I do assign students to practice with the metronome, so you need to have one. You can purchase a digital one fairly inexpensively at Music and Arts in Greenbrier. For beginners, you may use a keyboard, but as your student progresses, it will become necessary for them to have an acoustic piano or a digital piano with weighted keys and a sustaining foot pedal.
If you wish to terminate lessons, a ONE MONTH notice of termination is required. Students will be billed for the following month’s lesson if notice is not received. If you choose to take a month off, the same rules apply.
Payment is due on or before the first of the month. After the 5th day, a $5.00 late fee will be assessed for each week the tuition is late. Tuition remains constant each month, for 10 months, regardless of attendance. You get 35 lessons over a 10 month period with 3 extra half hour tagged onto your group lessons.
Family: $70.00 per student
Yearly: $700.00 (September through June.)
Due to health concerns over COVID-19, all lessons are being provided remotely via Skype or FaceTime until the CDC and Virginia General Assembly clear our area for risks of contracting SARS-CoV-2.
Every 3 months or so, we will be doing group lessons. This is an opportunity to perform pieces in front of a small audience and get feedback from their peers. Students will be able to critique in a constructive way to help make the piece better. We will also learn some history and do some listening activities. Each group will be an hour long. Please refer to your calendar for the dates. There are no regular student lessons in the week of group lessons. Group lessons will take the place of the regular lessons. Missing a group lesson will not be able to be made up.
